Nozawa Onsen’s famous Dosojin Fire Festival is held annually on January 15th. Watching the spectacular battle between the guards aged 25, trying to protect the structure and the 42 year olds sitting on top, while the remaining villagers try to burn the structure down. Certainly this is one of Japan’s most dramatic cultural events!
